What's MonkeyJam?
MonkeyJam is a digital penciltest program. It is designed to let you capture
images from a webcam, camcorder, or scanner and assemble them as separate frames
of an animation. You can also import images and sound files already on your computer.
Although it is designed for pencil and paper, MonkeyJam can also be used for StopMotion
animation and has several features just for that. Movies created in MonkeyJam can be exported
as AVI files.
Requirements:
Hardware:
Processor: 300mhz Pentium II
Memory: 50mb Free memory recommended
Disk Space: 4MB (Program) 50+mb (projects).
OS:
Windows 98SE, 2000, Me, XP
DirectX 8.1 or later. Latest version is strongly recommended.
Some users have reported success using MonkeyJam on OSX running Virtual PC and
may work on Linux running WINE.
If you have Mac and don't have Virtual PC, I can recommend
PencilTest, which will assemble images into a quicktime movie or
Frame Thief, a program for
stopmotion animation but which can be used for traditional pencil testing.
Camera: VFW or DirectX imaging device
Any device that is recognised as an "Imaging" device should work: USB webcams,
OHCI compliant FireWire devices and camcorders with VFW video capture cards.
Digital cameras will not capture directly into MonkeyJam unless they can function
as a PC camera. Digital cameras can still be used by taking pictures, transferring the
images to your computer and then importing the files into the X-sheet. For more
infomation, see Importing Images in the help file.
Scanner: MonkeyJam works with many (but not all) scanners. I use it regularly
with my Epson 3200.
